Cricket at Fort Augustus Abbey

Cricket returned to the grounds of Fort Augustus Abbey in 2009, when we welcome Fort William Cricket Club to their second home.

Bringing Cricket to Fort Augustus Abbey

In Summer 2008, Fort William Cricket Club (FWCC) starting maintaining the historic cricket ground at the Abbey with a view to encouraging players from the local area and providing a second home to Fort William's ground which has been blighted by drainage problems. One league match and two friendly matches were successfully played at the Abbey. In November 2008-March 2009, FWCC held indoor winter practice sessions at Kilchuimen Academy, mainly attracting teenage boys and girls. In Summer 2009, the maintenance at the Abbey has continued and the venue has now staged a practice session and a league match. FWCC wants to continue its efforts in Fort Augustus and has recently applied for a grant from the Fort Augustus & Glenmoriston Community Company for an artificial wicket which meets the criteria of the North Cricket League management committee. The Highland Club have been very supportive to date and have agreed to donate practice nets for use by the local youngsters.
