Free Space Video!

Happy New Year! This is our new video about the autonomous radical space that is the Minnehaha Free Space.

We will be sad to leave this beloved space. We want to find a new one. We move on January 15th and are still searching for a new place we can afford.

If you can share a few bucks or a few words on your page about why you support the space, we would appreciate it so much. www.gofundme.com/freespace

Thank you to all who came to the party and everyone who has visited the space these last few years.

Here’s to another year of resistance!

Love, MARS

Help the Free Space Move And Thrive

gofundme-logoIt’s time for another craft fair/flea market at the Free Space! Let’s come together with our community, support local crafters and vendors, and support the Free Space, too.

IF YOU WANT TO SELL STUFF that’s great! Crafts & flea-market-esque stuff is welcome. (If you haven’t been to the Free Space before, check out our website to get a feel for what we do: minnehahafreespace.org). Each vendor will have half of a 6′ table. $15 for upstairs tables & $5-$15 sliding scale for downstairs tables due on the day of the event. Upstairs tables are sliding scale for folx who need to be upstairs due to mobility concerns. Email Oliver at radspacetc@riseup.net for details and to reserve a table.

IF YOU WANT TO VOLUNTEER that is super great! You can help set up, clean up, provide child care or whatever you feel like offering. Email Oliver at radspacetc@@riseup.net & let them know what/when/how you wanna help out.

The event will be, as always, kid-friendly with childcare provided as needed. The upstairs of the Free Space is wheelchair accessible with an accessible bathroom available upon request. All bathrooms are gender neutral.

Tuesday 11/29 from 5:30-7:30: The Perfect Cup of Chai

In this workshop, we’ll delve into the world of Chai-Brewing. We will learn about classic Chai spices and other herbs that can compliment these flavors and support our bodies. We will learn how to brew Chai using a traditional method, and some techniques to make it more simply. This workshop is offered in the Gift Economy. All gifts will go toward my current Healing Justice work: Medicine Making for Standing Rock.

Friday 12/2 from 6-8pm: Indigenous History before 1492

Co-hosted with EXCO!

Indigenous issues are at the forefront for all humanity. I’m going to
emphasize the need to think of one’s own indigenous roots, as well as
the stories of indigenous people that existed on this land before
1492. We all came from somewhere, and the sooner we realize these
attachments, the better off we’ll be. In other words: learn from the
people who were here first, and learn from our own indigenous roots.

Indigenous history did not start in 1492, it started way before that
period. In fact, events of 1492 were a terrible, horrible
interruption. There were people on this land evolving in every way
conceivable before Columbus came along. As an Italian, I am proud to
denounce Columbus. (In fact, he reminds me of a couple cousins of
mine, so the heck with them).

Get beyond the fry bread, casino gambling, pow wows, all the stuff
that gets associated with indigenous humanity today, and to tell a
different story. If we don’t have knowledge of a pre-Columbian past,
then we don’t have a post-Columbian future.

About the facilitator: Ray has worked with Kalpulli Turtle
Island Multiversity, Hamline University, and has taught dozens of EXCO classes over the years on indigenous issues.
