Invergarry & Fort Augustus Railway Picture Gallery
A series of postcard images from days gone by, supplied by Jan Culshaw & The Laura Connection. (all postcard images Copyright © 2004 by The Laura Connection).
This series of postcards was issued during the last passenger carrying period of the railway. At the time, the whole of the line was still open to passengers, but only a short time later the section between the two Fort Augustus stations was closed. and trains no langer ran to the pier to meet the Inverness steamers.
The first card in the series depicts a timber train heading North through Spean Gorge.
The second card in the series shows a passenger train approaching the North end of Loch Lochy. The viewpoint is from the bottom of Laggan Locks.
The third card in the series shows a Southbound passenger train about to enter the tunnel alongside Loch Oich. In the background is the paddle steamer "Gondolier".
Fort Augustus Top Station
The fourth card in the series shows an engine in Fort Augustus main station, on the line to the swing bridge over the canal.
Oich Railway Bridge
The fifth card in the series shows a passenger train from the Pier station at Fort Augustus crossing the River Oich towards Fort Augustus main station. One of the few parts of the railway still visible today, the piers of the bridge are still standing.
