Telfords famous canal completed in 1822. Joins various lochs together from Fort William to Inverness. Watch the boats go up and down the flight of locks from Loch Ness onto the Canal.
Nice place to visit especially in the summer when there is a lot of activity in the locks. I prefer this one over... Neptune’s staircase because it’s in the town surrounded by shops and pubs.read more

Amazing feat of engineering from years gone by. Hundreds of people were watching the yachts going up through the locks... 1 by 1. Well worth a visit but can get really busy at times.read more
Lovely place, well worth a visit. Very interesting watching the boats going up and down the locks. My only slight... criticism is there's a very smartly dressed piper near to the lock, take a picture of him at your risk, because if you don't pay him he will moan at you. I would have paid but didn't get chance before he had a moan, so l didn'tread more
Loved this beautiful place. The canal is more than 250 years old. Goes to show how technically advanced the Scots were... in the 18th century. Have a nice time with the bagpipers playing in the background of an idyllic beauty. Enough eateries around to please your palette.read more
I very nice central spot of the village, very nicely landscaped, nice place to relax. Great to watch the water levels... change as the boats come through. We enjoyed.read more
A nice stop. Different from others. Plenty parking space (don't forget to add money into the meter as we totally missed... that it was a paid spot. We were lucky and didn't get a ticket). We actually had some boats passing through so could see the locks in action.
Some stores nearby (be warned as they aren't cheap)read more
Always busy at Fort Augustus with tour boats taking visitors on the loch. The Ribs go very fast on the loch and might... go down as far as Urquhart Castle, where as the other boat goes at a much slower pace, and slows down to show tourists interesting places on the loch. Well worth a trip especially on sunny, calm days.read more
