Gruinyards is a beautiful two bedroom top floor apartment in a historic former Abbey with stunning views along Loch Ness, possibly the best available anywhere. It is elegantly furnished and will give you a truly memorable holiday.
It sleeps four, or six with the sofa-bed. Or use the double Aerobed in the very large master bedroom to make it a family room.
With high sloping ceilings, Gruinyards manages to be both spacious and cosy. It combines old and new, having magnificent stone windows but is furnished in a clean contemporary style.
There are windows on three sides giving great views and the possibility of uninterrupted sun all day. However even on cloudy days the rooms are bright and cheerful making it a fantastic place to relax whatever the weather.
The apartment has unlimited free Wifi, a large TV with its own Netflix subscription, plus a range of films & DVDs, and a Bluetooth speaker system for music. There are detailed maps & guides and plenty of games and books.
The large open plan living-dining room also includes a fully equipped kitchen, complete with dishwasher and washing machine/drier.
There are two bedrooms: a very bright and spacious principal bedroom which also has high ceilings and enjoys views over the hills to the east and the Abbey cloisters to the south. It has a magnificent en-suite with a roll-top bath overlooking heather clad Borlum Hill.
There is also a very comfortable and cosy twin bedroom and a second bathroom which includes a bath and a shower.
Additional accommodation takes the form of a high quality double sofa bed in the living room. Alternatively we also have an automatic double Aerobed (it has an electric pump and adjustable firmness which makes it extremely comfortable) available in the principal bedroom so that this can be used as a very convenient family room.
As a guest at the apartment you can also make use of all the facilities of the Highland Club. These include tennis, badminton, bowls, croquet, a barbecue area and fishing in Loch Ness all set in the lovely loch-side gardens.
Inside there is the residents' lounge and games room with a full sized snooker table, table football and table tennis. And now you can enjoy the swimming pool, steam room and sauna in the magnificent setting of an old chapel. There is also a well equipped gym with weights and a wide range of rowing, cycling and other exercise equipment.
In addition activities including archery, air-rifle shooting and, tomahawk throwing, fishing lessons and canoeing can be provided in the grounds or very nearby. More adventurous activities, such as white-water rafting, canyoning, abseiling and clay-pigeon shooting are available locally, and there are daily boat trips and cruises offered just outside the abbey grounds.
Further information about the property and the local area can also be found on the Gruinyards website at www.gruinyards.co.uk

The exact price can be found on the booking site but as a guide the prices are:
2 nights – ~65% of the weekly cost
3 nights – ~75% of the weekly cost
4 nights – ~85% of the weekly cost
5 nights – ~90% of the weekly cost
6 nights – ~95% of the weekly cost
Pricing favours longer stays but this is because, being self catering, many of the expenses are the same whatever the length of stay.
We know that once you arrive you wouldn’t want to leave but it is worth pointing out you may well find that for a family even a single night works out cheaper than a hotel but with much more space and far better views!
The views over Loch Ness from the living room have made us fall in love.We will try to return to that magical place... soon. A place to disconnect, it's like being on another planet. Thank you.read more
Beautiful, large apartment in an incredible building, with fantastic views. This apartment has everything going for it.... Located in a spectacular converted monastery at the very edge of the loch and in the town of Fort Augustus, it is difficult to find words to give justice to this holiday apartment. It is incredibly spacious and the views over the loch are second to none. It is fully equipped, clean, incredibly comfortable and well maintained - cooking a meal in the apartment is just has delightful as eating out, more so as you have the beauty of the loch to observe whilst at table. There is also a generous hospitality pack with teas, coffee and biscuits/crisps. My visit was in winter, the winter landscape is stunning - I went tobogganing - and Inverness is just a short drive away so don’t restrict yourself to summer months. I felt it was good value as the rates are lower in winter and it is a fabulous apartment.read more
Large rooms, quiet part of Abby. Wonderful views of Loch Ness and the mountains surrounding us. Only thing was the 5... flights of steps, but since we are out all day it's only once to go up and down. Everything you need for a long holiday at this place.read more
