Morag's Lodge is a top quality 4* hostel located on the Great Glen Way in Fort Augustus, just a short walk from the banks of Loch Ness. Surrounded by stunning mountain scenery and set in wooded grounds this is the perfect budget accommodation option in the hub of the Highlands!

The hostel has a variety of room types including 4-bed & 6-bed dorms, doubles, twins, triples, and family rooms, all with private bathroom facilities. The modern and super-comfy bunks have private reading lights and power points, and all linen is provided free of charge.

There are excellent cheap meal options, from a buffet style budget breakfast to delicious home-cooked evening meals using local produce. There is also 24 hour access to the self-catering kitchen and free tea & coffee facilities.

The rustic bothy-style bar offers a superb range of local beers and single malts, has a cosy log fire for the colder winter nights, and regular live entertainment.

Other facilities include a drying room, laundry service, free wifi, toys, games, book swap and the famous red piano!

The friendly and welcoming team can assist with arranging local activities, including the on-site bike hire and boat trips on Loch Ness, as well as advising on day trips and other activities available in the area. The team are on-hand to ensure you are able to make the most of your time and are proud to deliver "Highland Hospitality" at its best!

I stayed here with my partner and a couple of friends in December 2022.The rooms were clean and cosy, although when... we arrived the radiators were cranked up full but the windows were open, which felt a but wasteful in the current energy crisis but maybe a covid thing?I had the best sleep I've had in weeks here. The bed was very comfy and we kept the windows open for the lovely fresh air and the sounds of the trees, and turned the radiators right down to save energy and keep cool.We were looking forward to the Pub Quiz that we'd heard about but it didn't seem to be running the weekend we were staying, infact there didn't seem to be much happening at all - the bar was shut too! We put it down to the hostel just being quiet because the time of year, we only met one other group of guests during our stay! Although there was a sign up saying they had no current vacancies so who knows!Despite the quietness (probably due the season) we really enjoyed our stay. Dog friendly, comfy bed, clean rooms, good high pressure shower. Definitely doesn't have all the luxuries of a fancy hotel but I'd chose dog friendly and a comfy bed over a fancy hotel any day!read more

Way overpriced. Door slamming was constant, had to remove our own bed sheets for 68£ the night and according to the... staff a private shower is a shower you share with people in other rooms... Some small fixings necessary all over the place. Most of the staff were quite friendly though.read more

This was my first stay in a hostel and Morag's Lodge certainly set a high bar. We stayed there for a rest stop whilst... doing the Loch Ness 360 and it was the ideal stop. We got a hearty and necessary meal upon arrival, enjoyed a few drinks and had a very comfortable night's sleep. Would definitely recommend to travellers.read more

Stopped off here whilst backpacking The Great Glen Way and had a rest day. Staff were extremely friendly, helpful and... accommodating. Everything was straight forward, no hassle, very impressive and convenient place to stop off on the trail. Very clean lovely rooms, buffet breakfast, packed lunches, amazing dinners, and laundry service. Hot showers.. The best hostel we have ever stayed in.read more

We only stayed one night in the Red Squirrel Room. The rooms are very clean and basic(Bunkbeds and a Bathroom) Towels... have to be Rented(only hand towel in bathroom). We ordered breakfast which was very poor, Bacon roll(bacon was hard and swimming in sauce). The staff are helpful and pleasant. Very expensive Hostel.read more

Well I can say it was my first and last stay in a hostel. I understand it's a hostel and didn't expect much but for... £100 a night it's not worth it, we stayed for exactly the same price at a 4-star hotel in Edinburgh. The room looked clean but it smelled like dump and the sheets didn't felt clean, on our last night my hole body was itchy. There was door probably under our room that was constantly slammed we could feel the vibration in our room. Also it's not bad to think about some rule about noise after certain hour. We stayed 3 nights and at our last night at the room next to us stayed family who shouted, walked up and down the hall, slammed the door, children screamed and all that until midnight. Even if you want to complain there is no one at the reception, also at least 2 times we wanted to ask something but after 10-15 min no show from anyone from the staff we just gave up.We chose not to eat there so I can't tell if the food is good or not, we were not told about the self-catering kitchen. On arrival one of the very first thing we were told was about the food they offer but no one mentioned the self-catering option which is not OK.I booked a hostel because it was a very last moment decision and nothing else was available but never again.I'm sorry but I can't recommend it. I'm giving 2 stars only because the very few times we met someone from the staff they were very nice otherwise I will give 1.read more

Wonderfully friendly and accommodating staff. Extremely clean rooms. Nice to have a bar and place to eat on site. We... only had breakfast and it was reasonable and quite good. It's very walkable to town. The only reason I'm giving a 4 instead of 5 is the bar music that went on until after midnight. Perhaps another room not above it would be quieter. We still highly recommend this hostel.read more

No glasses or plates in the rooms at all. Not even one.Bunk beds matresses are very hard, not comfy at all.King... size bed's mattress was fine, comfyIt would have been nice offering us to leave the bags somewhere whilst waiting for the check inLamp is installed upside down...Card is not working properly. It is a riddle , you have to find a way to open it otherwise u spend ur night in the staircaseOnly one blanket on the big bed. We dont sleep together. absolutely the best place to go . rooms are very clean. we had the family room with 3 sets of bunk beds and... shower/bathroom also . we had dinner and breakfast I would recommend the food the chief is lovely also . it's only 5 mins walk in to fort Augustus. great location also of you are staying here make a day for the cruises loch Ness. great experience . we had a fantastic time and we will be back . receptionist was lovely and would go out her way to make you feel very welcome. thank you from the jenkinsonread more

My husband and I were on a small trip after getting married. With these times it’s hard to know where you can even go.... We traveled across Scotland and camped. Decided we really wanted to find a place to stay one night and we enjoyed this place. A guy named Shaun who works there was very lovely and helpful. They do offer food, but we walked up the road to a fish and chip shop which is along the lock and other shops. I definitely recommend if you are planning a trip to this area. The room was clean and comfortable. No TV, but we were ok with that. I loved the Scottish decor and the names for the rooms instead of numbers. We will be looking forward to staying there again next time we are in that area. Thank you.read more

Great location, very friendly staff, basic amenities. Would give 5-star but we had a bad experience due to a mistake by... hotel staff. We returned to hotel at mid-night and all 4 cards didn’t work. We were told not to keep them with the phones, so we followed that strictly to avoid any issues.There was no emergency number to call, no one at the reception to let us in. We had to sleep with a friend with all out stuff locked inside our room, with no sleeping cloths, duvet, pillows it was very bad night and experience for us which ruined our holiday experience.Hotel staff apologised next morning and refunded the night’s cost plus free breakfast but the experience still spoilt our holidays.My recommendation to Morag’s lodge, please go back to good old room keys instead of card access. Card access is suitable for big hotels where reception is open 24/7 OR display the emergency number fixed on the front door so that someone can get help in case of emergency!read more

We stayed here as part of our Haggis Tour of Scotland in a 6 bed dorm. It also had an en-suite. We didn’t have dinner... with the rest of the group at the lodge as there were no vegan options so ate out. Came back later that night for trivia which was fun. Most people opted to have breakfast included in their stay but we used the self catering kitchen which was not very well equipped at all. Could only find a couple of bowls and a teaspoon for breakfast.read more

I was there with Haggis Adventures for 2 nights. The hostel was clean and the food they served was good and cheap. It... has an own pub with good prices. In the evening they played games. The hostel is only a 10 minutes walk away from Loch Ness. To start a tour around the lake, this is a good place. The staff was also very nice. I can recommend the hostel.read more

I've stayed at Morag's twice, and I have loved it both times. The rooms are quite comfortable, with a bathroom in every... bunk room and some good private rooms available. The staff is incredibly friendly, and the breakfast and dinner options are cheap and delicious, with huge portions. The guest's kitchen is well stocked, if that's more your thing. The on-site pub always has fun stuff going on, and being right by the banks of Loch Ness means you get some decent views. If I'm ever back in the area, this is where I'll stay.read more
